As most of you may now be aware, the round pound will be officially withdrawn from circulation as of midnight Monday 16th October.
There are a few shops and supermarkets that are going to accept them until the end of the month.
I will be keeping a couple of each type I have on my swap list, and although I do not have all varieties or dates, there are some that might be interesting to some of you.
When these are gone, if they ever go, that is, no more will be available unless you go to dealers. I am talking about all swap lists not just mine with these coins. 1.3 billion have so far been removed from circulation with more going every day.
Therefore, if you have gaps in your collection, now is the time to fill them.
I am not asking for swaps to be started now, just bear in mind the future of these, soon to be defunct coins.
Oh, not as bad as I thought then. Perhaps I will keep a few more then. The final demise will take years then.
I would like to know how many are actually in people's collections and will never be handed in. I have one of each issue, since 1983, so that works out at quite a few.
That's quite interesting, there has been some negative publicity about the general public not being aware of when the round pounds were being de-monetized, I thought it was midnight on Sunday the 15th?
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
Also, there have been a number of retailers, including Poundland and Tesco, who have said they will continue to accept round pounds after next Sunday. Make sense really, since they can still pay them in to their banks as usual.
