The Gambia will have new banknotes from February 2018.

It will be carried out as a way of removing the banknotes from the 2014 commemorative 20 Dalasis & the undated 2015 5 to 200 Dalasis from circulation, as these depict the portrait of Yahya Jammeh, the former dictator who was removed from power in January this year.

Only the commemorative 20 Dalasis dated 22nd. of July 2014 is a polymer note.

All the other Gambian note types are paper.

All Gambian notes have been printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd. of London,England.

Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd. have been printing polymer notes for a few years now - starting with the polymer 5 Pounds from all 3 note-issuing banks in Scotland.

The Gambian 2014 commemorative 20 Dalasis is quite a nice looking note,despite Yahya Jammeh's portrait appearing on the note.

I love Gambias currency and coins as well. I buy every hippo coin I come across. And I have most of the modern notes as well. Love the themes.

The Gambia's notes are of interest to me,as The Gambia has been a member state of the British Commonwealth since 1965.
