I have never thought of this until now but if notgeld is emergency currency issued by local municipalities in lieu of 'real' currency then would a lot of the Confederate notes issued by states and cities be considered to be in this catagory.
They were not emergency money. They were the currency of the Confederacy. How do you think they were notgeld?

Some Confederate paper money might have been considered notgeld (such as the Bank of somewhere) issues, but these weren't uncommon to see in the USA as well during and before the civil war; there were literally thousands of banks issuing their own banknotes.

However, the CSA certainly has official issues of it's own:

This one's mine, issued in mid-1864. An interesting fact is that the design on the front is captioned with 'TWO YEARS AFTER THE RATIFICATION OF A TREATY OF PEACE BETWEEN THE CONFEDERATE STATES & THE UNITED STATES'; from what I can find online the design and it's caption date from 1861/1862, when things were looking considerably better for the CSA than in 1864, after which I can all too easily imagine someone being amused ironically at that image.
because of a lack of coins and currancy, many cities issued banknotes to help with this shortage. i was not talking about the notes issued by the csa but the ones issued by cities like staunton or such, or maybe i am an idiot.
Be careful with it's and its there, Cass. ;)

BTW, that's a great note (and its history (*hint* :O)), and that comes from someone who would never look twice at American money.

Got me again!

From now on i'll probably do 'its' whatever the occasion! :O

Hehe!
I think it is easier if you stick to "it is", and when that looks/sounds weird it should probably be its. :)
