I'm new here and am trying to learn the ins and outs of this site. Can somebody explain what a "special trade" means exactly?

Welcome out here!

It normally means that those coins are considered more valuable by that member and will not be swapped for any coin. How "special" or how "valuable" of course depends on the swapper ...
