I suggest merging 1 Dollar (KM# 31, KM# 35) and 50 Cents (KM# 30, KM# 34) from Hong Kong into single coin types, with the edge varieties being noted in comments within the entry in the same way as we now have in the catalog similar 5 Cents (1958-1980) and 10 Cents (1955-1980) from Hong Kong which are listed as single consolidated coin types with edge varieties being noted in comments.
This approach when edge varieties are not considered as a base for a separate coin type in the catalog will follow the approach already practiced by Numista like we have for Italy 20 Lire or 50 Pfennigs from the Federal Germany.
I would absolutely agree, but the Hong Kong catalogue was structured according to KM#s, and I believe it would be best to keep it that way.
That being said, it does seem like a discrepancy for the SCWC to have separate KM#s for the security and reeded edge 50 cents and dollar coins while combining the same edge varieties for the 5 and 10 cent coins into just sub Km#s, but this is an issue you should bring to them rather than to me.
If Krause has made an error in their listings, shouldn't we not repeat those same errors, and instead try to correct them?
My vote goes to merging the pages (or even splitting the pages with multiple edge varieties; as long there is consistency, I would be happy either way).
OK, I guess the people have spoken; I will comply.
I'd rather split the pages with multiple edge varieties; I'll do this first thing when I get back, tonight. Will get in touch with Ole soon for SCWC edit, and with the master refs for moving peoples' collections.
And please also correct the dates as shown on the screenshots below to completely finish with the change:
Also I have made a change request for all 4 coins (5 Cents, 10 Cents, 50 Cents, 1 Dollar - all both edge types) to include a dedicated note about the edge type on Search page to quickly see the difference which is the usual and widely-spread practice in the Numista catalog, so that it will look something like on the below image:
Ups, my change request has been turned down on the reason that it is already included inside the coin pages, bit it is a ridiculous excuse )) When people search for coins in the catalog, including even seasoned collectors - it is always a good practice to quickly be able to see the difference between coin types from the search page, we have it everywhere in Numista, please approve.
I ask every other Numista member to supprt the change, please see an example screenshot above in my previous post, thank you!!!
And as for the title change, with the differences being the edges (which is not something you can possibly see a picture of/read about until you open a new page), indicating the difference in the title could be beneficial, but I think the comments section also works. And with the link to the other variety located in the "See also" section, if you happen to start on the wrong page, the correct page is just one click away.
