Hello,

The inverse thread to ScotsGreyhound's thread for huge banknotes! This is for notes on the other end of the spectrum, which may be less visually impressive, but still interesting nonetheless.

Here is another scale display, with a US $1 note for scale again:

Small notes were often issued in times when coinage was scarce, often during times of conflict and war. The notes above are from the USA, China, Hong Kong, Latvia, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Cuba, Fiji, and Italy; the best one there are the US fractional notes and the Czechoslovak 5 Korun specimen note. ;)

And of course, obligatory French, and French colonial notes:

All of these notes were issued during/after wars. 8~
Great thread idea CassTaylor B)

I have one of these. When I showed it to my mother she thought that it was a toy note.

They are Fen notes from China. Smaller than a jiao. Truck is 1 fen, ship is 5 fen. There is a date on the back mine say 1953 on them.

I have no pics for now, but my absolute smallest is Russian Empire 10, 15, 20 kopecks, 1915, 24x29 mm.
Then I also have: RSFSR, 1, 2, 3 Rubles, 1919, 40x48 mm.
This topic must mention 10 bani 1917 from Romania

44 by 33 milimetres.
This is more a "paper coin" technically, issued as an emergency measure in WW1. Its value was 1/10 Leu.

When I started collecting more seriously, I bought a lot of coins and notes from a professional seller. 10 bani 2017 was one of the most important banknote from the lot. I managed to forget it in the envelope the seller sent all the items in ... and threw the envelope in the trash bin. Funny enough, the cleaning staff from work found it and thought it's a nice looking ... stamp and returned it to me :)

This is now my smallest banknote.

I also have these, from a Hungarian member's swap:

They're stamp banknotes, issued by the former Russian Empire from 1915-17 during WWI, to replace shortages of circulating small change in various parts of the Empire. Always did enjoy the confused look when I told people these are my smallest "banknotes"!

These 4 banknotes are now my smallest. Approx 20mm x 20mm
