have a look at the year of the coin shown in the image with the year from left to right
四十
in the the year line (FR) it has been turned around to
十四
thus assuming that everybody knows that Japanese is read from right towards the left!
I think, we should show what is written on the coin and NOT someone's interpretation. Any beginner and thus normally not Japanese speaking person will look at his coin and say, BULL and whatever can fall behind such an animal!
Sorry but I can not see what you are takling about. Where on the coin is the date written in this 四十 form?
The comment section on all Japanese coins has the date the way it is on the coin (left to right reading of the text regardless of the Japanese reading direction) because in the past people complained that they don't find their date in the year lines.
I think a collector needs to know how to read it. Maybe the comments section should include a link on how to read Japanese dates.
Or, the picture does not match what the coin description. Because the coins says meiji 40 year but the description wrote meiji 34 year.
That is what sjoelund is trying to say.

I corrected the lettering but I think that was not Ole's problem.
Also I wont put links on every coin page on how to read Japanese dates, we have a Numisdoc with a wide collection on how to read dates of different systems and I think one should put in a minimum of effort to get to know their coins, we are no kindergarten.
Furthermore if you have two eyes (to look on the coin) and the datelines you have the conversions already.

Yes I agree. I think it would be nice for the comments section to add like
For reading or translating of japan calanders, please go to the link below. Https://link
So they will not complain. But really even I did my part by going to find out what are the translation years before I start. And I am doing a excel of almost 1600 years of translation and a lot of work. So ya....

Verweis : "Sjoelund"Hi,
I'm sorry, but it's my faulty view of the date confusing me, what I thought I saw was the 4 and then the 10.
Actually the 4 I thought I saw was upside down, since I didn't read from the edge but from the middle!!!!!
So for me everything is fine again and the world still turns round correctly.
Sorry again, but it was late last night
Ole
NP. Happy collecting.
