Hello,
Can anyone identity this cash coin? It seems to me like an early sort, but I’m unfamiliar with this type and unable to decipher the script...

diameter: 24mm
thickness: 1mm
weight: 2.19g

This is a banliang(半両, or 半两 in modern Chinese, means half tael) coin.
This type was introduced in State of Qin during the Warring States Period, and had been issued through Qin Dynasty to the early years of Western Han Dynasty. Since all of them were well before Jesus Christ was born, your coin is definitely more than 2000 years old.
According to the size and weight, I think it is a later type from Western Han Dynasty, called Han banliang, which turned into wuzhu(五銖) then. An original Qin banliang would be much larger.
I agree with Trebuchet, probably a Han issue. It happens sometimes that Qin ban liang are smaller like this one, but are then usually heavier than this.
I’ve heard of it, indeed, but my knowledge of ancient Chinese coinage is rather limited (all I know is the Wu Zhu cash), and I was trying to decipher the letters from left to right, anyway, so no wonder why I couldn’t figure it out. Belated but thank you!
