Hello,

Is it just me or is the example pictured in this page, of C#18 (JNDA 09-43), actually an example of C#18a (JNDA 09-44, the type with "new ニ朱")? They both have the same curved first stroke of "朱" instead of the longer flatter one of the Tenpo type:

Because of the bigger mintage there ought to be a certain number of calligraphy variants.
In my documents I have not found a strict distinction through calligraphy only through size and weight.
I will search for other pictures with metionings of the coin size.

From what I have found, I must come to the same conclusion as Idolenz: the main difference between these pieces is the size and weight, and the calligraphy style varies. And if that is the case, the pictures are both pages are, more-than-likely, correct.
