Hi guys,

I don't know if this is even the right place to ask that, so I'm sorry if it isn't.

I stumbled upon a coin(s) that just exceeds my (very limited) skills in image cropping. I'm talking about this which are basically 8 coins in one. It gets even harder because there are only slightly rotated pictures of the reverse. And I don't even want to start with the shapes of these coins ...
While we can use the pictures of this source, is there someone in this community who wants to tackle that challenge?
With a photo we could try

Sorry, only solution: get the coin.

I tried to take as much distortion out by adjusting horizontal vs. vertical size. Only one has the remains of the watermark.
One more, with a very disturbing background ;)

The quality of the pictures is quite bad so the crop will not be much prettier I am afraid (at least not with more work than it's worth)
I can't find a background to remove
In principle, the quality of the representation of the subject photographed is included in the copyright of its author.

Edit : proposal deleted, the request does not come from the author, the proposal with improved clarity is not suitable.
BOINC
It was a request from al-Bakuvi.
Can you tell me what else you do with the pictures you crop because I have seen quite extreme contrasts and artefacts on pictures you have edited?
only clipping, orientation, cropping and dimension.
No more intervention affects the performance of the coin, which I was criticized at the beginning
BOINC
Hmm strange ... maybe some compression issue then. The picture was low resolution to begin with and now edited and saved twice.

I took your post as asking for someone to crop those pictures. Sorry if I duplicated your work.
If I put it here, it's good for someone to take care of it. This topic is there for that.
You don't take 'my work' from me: failing to provide correct photos that comply with Numista standards everyone can tackle it, this is not a reserved area, only help requested by the team in April 2016.
However, it is possible that after having downloaded, recorded, then restored a digital photo with hardware and software stakeholders (GIMP, Photoshop, Paintnet, etc.), certain original characteristics may be modified; this is the disadvantage of the virtual, although some see it as the real and as absolute clones.

For those who would be tempted, and since the GoogleSheet link cited in 2016 has disappeared, I will repeat my method
Cropping with GIMP 2.8 (thanks chomp-master for translation))
When you are not the author of the photo, avoid using sites that keep the image, image search engines take care of their distribution.
Round coin
Zoom the pic to the maximum of allowed space [Display] [Zoom]
1- < Elliptic selection > tool
2- Adjust to the coin listel
3- Menu [ COPY ]
4- Menu [ PASTE AS ] [ new image ]
https://static-numista.com/forum/images/57840281f0c5b.png
5- < Filling > tool, white colour.
https://static-numista.com/forum/images/578402bed3968.png

ENDING for all methods
If necessary : < rotate > tool
Final step: Menu [File] [Export As…] « xxx-1.jpg » in special folder where « xxx.jpg » original is.

Irregular coin (two methods adopted)
Preliminary steps :
1- Frame the coin : < Rectangular selection > tool and [Image] [Trim following the selection]
2- Zoom to the pic like for round coins

A method for probably uniform background
1- bleach the surrounding part of the pic using the < FILLING > tool, starting by the pic borders (1), and by the farthest and clearest parts of the pic (2)
https://static-numista.com/forum/images/5784030810cf2.png
2- getting to the closest of the coin, the colour to delete may be found inside the coin and make white spots, please cancel if needed [Edit] [Cancel]
3- zoom to 400 or 500 %
4- take the < pencil > tool on "Hardness", choose the size to erase the remnants and follow slowly the coin listel by small sections, making errors easier to cancel. CTRL+Z
https://static-numista.com/forum/images/57840334b89ba.png
5- reduce to see the result … and go to the common ENDING step.

B method for a patchwork background
1- Zoom the pic as explained above
2- Using the < path > tool, mark the limits of the coin
https://static-numista.com/forum/images/5784035d169bc.png
3- Lock the last dot using < Select from the path >
4- Click on [Select] [Invert]
5- Click on [Edit] [Erase]
6- Bleach the new black background using the < Filling > tool
7- [Select] [None] and go to the common ENDING step.

Other methods possible exist
For example : bleach exterior of coin by sectors with the < path > tool.

Edit: This coin is listed as a Pattern but is clearly an error (wrong planchet) coin. Why does it have its own page as a pattern?
Also why is that picture cut off? Please ask the submitter for a complete and also in focus picture.
Depending on if those yellow specks are just artefacts from the camera sensor or not it could also just be a plated regular coin.

I'm guessing that the weight and diameter matching the 1-Kopiika coin was the reason it was listed as a "wrong planchet" coin. Regardless, mint errors don't deserve separate pages in the catalog.

Hello,

not sure my request 100% matching the topic of this thread but I need help with splitting 1 image of 4 coins into 4 images (actually 2 images : one for obverse and one for reverse)

There is a set of 4 commemorative coins and unfortunately no separate images per each coin

https://bank.gov.ua/en/uah/investment-coins/souvenier-coins?page=1&perPage=100&search=&nominal%5B%5D=40&nominal%5B%5D=10&from=2021-12-30&to=2021-12-31

Questions:

1. Can someone help me?

2. If yes do you prefer me create coins first and provide links here so you can update coins with images or will you upload images somewhere so I use them during coins creation?

If you would enjoy this work with splitting I have one more set with 9 coins)))

I will try splitting them. Give me a few minutes …

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

I rotated the main images then cropped them, then rotated back the separate ones …

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

I wouldn't rotate images whenever possible especially multiple times, you always lose quite a lot of information that way.

I left them as PNGs so you have to save them as jpg or do something with them beforehand.

ZacUK, Idolenz thank you for your work! Now question: should I still select source of the images as National Bank of Ukraine or point you as authors?

We are picture manipulators, not picture creators. So it is the bank.

Even then assuming they have given us permission.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

Coins are created, thank you for help :

https://bank.gov.ua/en/uah/investment-coins/souvenier-coins?page=1&perPage=5&search=&nominal%5B%5D=90&from=&to=

I would do it, but mine would not be as good as the others.

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

To be honest you can do that one even with paint yourself 😛

Idolenz

You're right, this case with 9 coins is simpler, I'll handle it by myself, thanks!

Apart from cropping, I would suggest they get brightened.

The first two also need white balance, the third is partly out of focus.

I did what I could with those already cropped pictures …
