Hello,

Any info about this notgeld:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note212829.html

In 1919, Cieszyn was disputed between Poland and Czechoslovakia. But I don't think Austria had any claim on it.
The notgeld uses the Austrian krone, but has a Polish face. So should it be in Poland?

It cant be Austrian. according to the link provided by Idolenz :

The death of Franciszek Ferdynand in Sarajevo and the outbreak of World War I elevated Frederick to the heights of power. He received the rank of field marshal and was entrusted with the main command of the Austro-Hungarian army. Thanks to this, in the years 1914–1916 Cieszyn became the seat of the Main Army Staff (AOK - Armeeoberkomando). After the death of Franz Josef I in 1916, the young emperor Charles I became the commander-in-chief of the army. Frederick became his deputy, but not for long, because in 1917 he was dismissed from his position. After the end of World War I in 1918, he lost his estates in Cieszyn Silesia. Dobra Komora Cieszyńska based on a peace agreement with St. Germain was taken over by the newly created Polish and Czechoslovakian states

This means that Cieszyn since 1919 wasn't Austrian. The best way to place is Duchy of Teschen.

Definitely not Austria.

I would say to not place it under the Duchy of Teschen. That is under Bohemia, and... I do not think that is right for this note.

While Cieszyn was split between Poland and Czechoslovakia, the there were two different councils. Poland had the 'Rada Narodowa Księstwa Cieszyńskiego' and Czechoslovakia had the 'Národní výbor pro Slezsko', according to this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cieszyn_Silesia

I can see this on the note:

But I cannot seem to find reference to the Czech council. Perhaps I am missing something (I cannot read the note), but if I am not, I'd say to place this in a Polish Notgeld section.

(We will need a Polish Notgeld section for coins too, so... it would be nice if this was
created. 0:) )
If you look on this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish%E2%80%93Czechoslovak_War
The war for Cieszyn and other lands was till 3rd Febuary 1919. The final division of Cieszyn Silesia came in July 1920 as a result of the Spa Conference. The note was issues in April 1919 when disputed territory was placed under international control.
I get a catalog notgelds of polish lands and this note is there.

I am fascinated reading your discussion about my little banknote. I put it under Austria because of the Krone. I had no idea that the history behind it was so complicated. One of the things that make Notgeld so interesting for me is that it gives reasons for looking up and reading about hundreds of different localities.

Thank you for the feedback everyone!

We now have a Polish Notgeld section and the note has been reassigned.
I think we should add more sub-sections soon, Danzig would be one of them probably.
