Anyone need and willing to swap for a very near complete collection of Irish decimalized 'coppers'. Unfortunately the 1985 halfpenny is unavailable.

The Irish 1985 & 1986 1/2 Penny are extremely rare - & very expensive!

Hence I don't have one. :D

Thanks Aidan
I have managed to get most of the Irish decimal coins ( 1969 - 2000 ) into my collection through finding them here in New Zealand.

Yes, I even include them, along with the 1949 - 69 pre-decimal coins & the Irish Euro coins, in my collection of British Commonwealth coins for continuity & historical interest.

Hopefully, one day, the Republic of Ireland will become a member state of the Commonwealth of Nations - to help draw a line in the sand in terms of its history & to help bring both countries on the isle of Ireland a bit closer in terms of breaking down barriers.

Yes. Ireland rejoining the Commonwealth is extremely doubtful. I am far from being an expert but I don't think it is even possible with Ireland being in the European Union.

Cyprus & Malta are also in the European Union - & they are also in the Commonwealth as well.

Ireland has much more in common with the U.K. than a lot of people think - not only in terms of culture & history.

Of course, over 40 Million people of Irish descent live in Commonwealth countries, especially in Australia, Canada, & the U.K..

It makes no sense for the Republic of Ireland to remain outside the Commonwealth in this day & age - considering a few countries were outside the Commonwealth, but have since returned - most recently, the Maldives, which left the Commonwealth in October 2016, but returned to the Commonwealth 1 hour after the U.K. finally left the European Union (Brexit).

Aidan.
Don't think you could seriously compare the historic relationship between UK and Ireland with the Maldives situation

The Maldives & The Gambia are both Commonwealth republics with very strong ties to other Commonwealth countries in their regions.

Ireland also has very strong ties to the U.K. as well.

Don't forget that the Irish Pound was part of a currency union with the U.K. until 1979 - which meant 1 Irish Pound was worth 1 Pound Sterling, & both currencies were officially decimalised on the same date - 15 February 1971.

Ireland is also part of a Common Travel Area with the U.K., the Isle of Man, & the Channel Islands as well.

Aidan.
I think things are just fine the way things are at the moment.

Ireland as a Commonwealth republic would have the following things not change;

The President would still be head of state of Ireland - but a Commonwealth head of state.

The Prime Minister would still be head of government of Ireland - but a Commonwealth head of government.

The powers & jurisdictions of the Oireachtas (Dail & Seanad) & the courts of Ireland would remain the same as before.

The Euro would become the currency of 3 Commonwealth republics - instead of 2 at present.

The only thing that would change diplomatically - Ireland & other Commonwealth countries would appoint High Commissioners instead of Ambassadors, & Embassies would be retitled as High Commissions.

Naturally, Commonwealth membership for the Republic of Ireland would bring both countries on the isle of Ireland closer than has been the case since 1949, when both countries were driven apart through the Republic of Ireland Act, 1948 coming into effect on 18 April 1949.

What makes you think they want to be closer?

Have you not heard of this term - reconciliation?

More people need to start spreading some love instead of sowing hate.

Ordinary people in BOTH countries on the isle of Ireland deserve better - despite how disgusting politicians really are in general, & how despicable the scumbag terrorists calling themselves by an alphabet soup of names including the letters 'I.R.A.' in their names really are!

Aidan.
Well that's where the vast majority of people on both islands were reconciled. Reconciled in their hatred of the I.R.A.

Ireland will join the Commonwealth if the other Commonwealth countries allow it to and the Irish people agree to it. There is no appetite to do so at the moment. This may change in future generations.

Now please the discussion of politics is not allowed on Numista.
Sometimes, it is unavoidable that politics gets dragged into Irish numismatics.

In 1966 - Patrick Pearse being depicted on the obverse of the silver 10 Shillings.

In 2016 - the 1916 Easter Rising was commemorated.

In 2019 - Dail Eireann was commemorated.

Don't even bother trying to send me anything - considering you have been blocked for your disgusting & vile language!

Aidan.
I only use vile and disgusting language with people who deserve it. I have never contacted you before so therefore I am losing out on nothing. A few words of advice, try reining in your opinion. It's not the be all to the rest of us.

What a wanker!

Aidan.
What's your problem Aidan? You wanting everyone to bow before you? Thanks for turning my simple offer of coins into a political slugfest. You should know better. You're a Numista member long enough.

You should know better than to believe the crap from Sinn Fein/ I.R.A. - as they are scum like Herri Batasuna / E.T.A.!

Aidan.
You just can't let go can you Aidan? Please find similar idiots on YouTube or Quora to converse with.
Aiden, that is enough. If they wanted in - they would've entered. It is not happening, deal with it. There is no need to attack and be rude to anybody who doesn't share your delusional views.

Have you tried growing something - called a brain?

No wonder why village idiots like you are so deservedly hated in many British Commonwealth countries, including here in New Zealand!

Aidan.
You're showing your true colours Aidan.
