Hi,i need a help with two of my banknotes. The first one is Japanese, looks like a p.30(1 yen from 1916)but with green serial number and green seals.I can`t find any information about this one.
and the second one is Chinese .Looks like reprint but i am not sure .The paper is old and yellow and what i see diferent is the blue seals.
Wikipedia's says there are variants on the 50 yuan note but does not discuss them. Personally the condition of the note concerns me. It is pretty good for that era. Do you know its provenance? If you bought it from a Chinese seller on ebay I would question its authenticity.
I know of no other examples of this type with green serials.
If the watermark looks good I would say it is water damage and part of the ink was washed out. You can see it on the 2 of the upper left serial where it has started to wash out.
I only have one Japanese note, a post war 1946 10 yen. I do not know much about them. I have more interest in Chinese notes as my wife is Chinese and her family gave me a whole set of the 1980 notes uncirculated with all the Chinese ethnic groups displayed on them. Since then I have purchased other notes from China. So I am interested in learning more about them. I was intrigued when I saw the 1949 date on your bill. That is the first year of the peoples republic. The images on the bill are certainly communist oriented.
If it came from an American source I would not think it is a fake right away. But its condition is suspicious. My chinese notes are just a little older than yours, 1936 and 1941 and they are fine but no crispness to them. I have some from 1953 and they are virtually uncirculated. So it could be real but you would have to find someone with more knowledge than me. The different seal colour is usually identified as a variant on most notes so I would expect it to be documented somewhere and I could not find it.
If you learn more about it let me know, I am interested in it. I will look for this era at the next show I go to.
I just found this information. Is a similar banknote but in red. With the same seals.
and tomorrow i will make a photos to the seals and serials on Japanese note. Not looking like a water damage.
The image at www.banknote.ws for P-826 is blue face with red seals. The image for P-827 is red face with red seals.
Your image is a blue face with blue seals. The website does not have a P-825 listed. P-824 is a 20 yuan note. So maybe yours is P825... that would be sweet as the 827 you show sold for $1225. Find a reliable dealer who can advise you. Good find.
still not looking igual.
what i see here is a wet spot and on the green seals and numbers no sign of wet
Anyway i send a question to japanese bank may be they will now something.
Especially taking the condition of the note into account it is still a case of washed out ink to me.
If you get an answer from the bank please share it with us in this thread.
I think your first note is the Pick 30 as you identified. The different color seal and serial may be different due to environmental issues.
By the Chrysathemum blossom at top, you can see that this is a homeland type. It does not have the floral emblem of either Korea or Manchukuo. Which had banknotes specifically for them issued by the Japanese, that did have the floral emblems of Korea and Manchukuo. They also had different designs. If you have the Pick catalog, you can look under Korea, and the Japanese issues under China for banknotes of this time period that would have circulated in Korea and Manchukuo.
