Hi,
I have always been fascinated with numbers. I remember most of the car number plates at my work car park!
Anytime I see a low serial number on a banknote and it matches a date of birth from among my friends and relatives - I gift it to them.
Gave this one to my friend last year - his kid turned 10.

Wondering if there was a market for this....ebay or some such.

I have this -
I remembered this (all the topic) from last year ...

From my experience I wouldn't consider a BC note as low serial.

These days people wants AA's and such.

Okay.
I was only considering the numbers....didn't think about the alphabets.

Interesting....time to implement the special calendar:D

How about these?

"Wondering if there was a market for this....ebay or some such."

I believe the market for special serial numbers is still pretty strong (much stronger than regular SN banknotes). But of course some countries are sought after more than others...

I don't think serial numbers starting with 01 count as "low", but you might have hit on the idea of "birthday notes", which does have some validity.

True
Well, low number means 000001. Regardless of the alphabetical in front.

AA is usually consider 1st prefix. But there is a catch here. In some cases, AA is not the 1st prefix. Because the 1st prefix means 1st issued out to public. It maybe some other alphabetical order. It also depends on which country you are living it. Only if you follow the country trend then you will know what am I talking about.

There is no right or wrong. Just collect what you like. That is the most important.

Hi Sabre82,
Yes, I agree with you.
Maybe I should have called this a birthday serial number, instead of the low banknote serial number.

YES! In other forums I have asked "what is the significance of the first prefix?" From the few mixed answers I am certain it is more about "hype" used by sellers then what the specific prefix is due. I also had a thread enquiring about: "pre-Euro notes to collect" & several collectors have confirmed that countries (like Portugal) use single letter prefix (eg A00001) & once these letters are used moved to double letter (eg AA00001). The Philippines have also employed this practice. But the prefix/suffix "A" isn't always significant (nor superior). For Solomon Islands $5 & $10 (P-6b & P-7b) second signature (also designated by suffix B) is far tougher (& more uncommon) than the initial A suffix. And most countries I know of (like Canada, US, Australia) don't start off their series with an alphabetical A-Z system. So each country is different.

I have not observed much demand (premium) for birthday serial # notes. There may be a bit more demand for birth year notes (eg CHV0001968 ) but the note should be high grade (AU - UNC condition).

Well, in the region I lived in, Singapore, 1st prefix is always 0AA. The older banknotes is A/1.

In Malaysia, its a totally different game play. They don follow the Malaysia neigera bank naming. Instead they called it series. And the series is by the signature. So they would always call it 13th series 1st prefix and so on. Even the 1 ringgit have a Triple A prefix. That only raise the price of the note by little to nothing depending on condition.

Japanese banknotes is a different game play. They have variants. Eg the colour of their serial number.

Depending on how serious you want to collect. Its never ending. Just be happy about it. There is no perfect collection to me. There is only your own desire complete collection.
