Finally got round to cataloging a collection that I have been accumulating for years and I can't remember where I got this. The obverse doesn't look right and the reverse is all wrong (can't find any pictures like it). At 39mm and approx 30g the dimensions match. Any ideas?
harryg - is it just the weight that bothers you? I only stuck it on the kitchen scales - it should be 27g and at 30g I think it's within the accuracy of the scales.
The obverse is so bad it is obvious. Sorry, I corrected the Numista link in my previous post. Also, Mexico was not generous in offering more silver in a coin than specified. That is unless your scale is way off.
The reverse was so bad I wondered if it was a different coin. Seems strange that someone would make such a bad fake. I think someone gave it to me years ago as it might be "interesting", so no clue where it came from. Thanks for responding

Agreed - the cactus is redesigned, and the reverse with a rising sun over water is wrong.
Probably not a counterfeit from that time, to deceive anyone, even if silver plated;
and the 10D lettering denotes the amount of silver (8R = 8 Reales). Maybe just a tourist replica.
Probably made at the same place as this token with the same reverse ... https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces71545.html
and the lettering United Maxxico America on the different obverse;
which within that link is an interesting article about that place.

I vaguely remember visiting Maxxico once after I had a few shots of Tequila.
Interesting! Following the link from ZacUK's link... there's an article on someone who collects the counterfeits - obviously quite a range of them around. Think I might have a Chinese "silver" dollar from the same place.
